The man I never met before, I met again.

I saw a man yesterday.  I hadn't seen him in years. Almost 64 years.  You see, I really had never met him before in my life.  The point is, we met.  We met at that moment and it took almost 64 years to finally learn something I had not learned before.

I learned that when he was a child his mother taught him the name of every flower in their garden.  There were over 100 different names.

I was amazed because he began to recite them.  That was nice until about the 25th flower.  I was grateful that his wife rescued me.

"Not again, James.  I'm sure this man is impressed, but I don't think he needs to hear all 100 names."

I smiled politely and by doing so I thanked her for interrupting us.

So, what did I learn from this man I hadn't seen in years?

It wasn't that he could remember the names of 100 flowers.  It was that he practiced remembering every chance he had.

There are gifts we were given.  There are talents we've not used in a very long time.  Perhaps right now at this point in your life you are trying to figure out what you want to do.  You want to know where you want to go and what can you do to re-invent yourself.

Maybe, just maybe, it's time to go back to the beginning and dust off the things you already know.

The ability to name each state and its capital just might make you a travel agent or a tour guide.   Bring along a camera and you're suddenly a travel photographer, Michelle.

Make a list of all the things you wanted to be and maybe it's time to be one.
